Wild Valentines dips and dates

Wild Valentines dips and dates

From heart-shaped lakes to romantic waterfalls straight from Wuthering Heights, here are our suggestions for a super cool way to spend this Valentine's weekend. By cool, we mean that quite literally in February so be prepared for a bracingly good time.

Snowdon and Llyn Glasyn, Wales

For those who prefer their romance to be a bit on the wild side, what better way to spend Valentine's Day than taking a hike up to the Summit of Snowdon, before enjoying a rather fresh dip in a heart-shaped lake on your way back down.

Llyn Glasyn means blue lake in Welsh and is about as stunning and remote as UK wild swims get. It's then a three mile trek down the Miner's track back to the Pen y Pas car park.

As romantic as it is, you might want to retreat to cosy pub before nightfall. According to local folklore, if two people spend the night there, legend has it that one will become a great poet and the other will go insane. Not really worth the risk really is it?!

Bude Sea Pool, Cornwall

Bude might be known for its surfing but the Bude Sea Pool offers a chance to take a dip with your other half in the beautiful turquoise Cornish sea, safe from the Atlantic currents. Dry off and take a romantic stroll along the beach before dropping into one of the area's cosy pubs or cafes.

Part natural and part manmade, it is looked after by The Friends of Bude Sea Pool and it is totally free to take a dip.

Kingsbarns beach and Cambo gardens, Fife

St. Andrews might be a popular destination for couples each Valentines weekend but we'd much prefer to spend a romantic day a few miles further along the coast.

Kingsbarns beach in Fife, also known as Cambo sands, is a popular spot for wild Scottish swimmers in the know. What makes this one worthy of date-day romance though is the chance to meander arm in arm through snowdrop-covered woodlands on your way down to the beach through the stunning Cambo gardens. Book a post-dip private or social sauna and take in the stunning scenery with the lovely Wild Scottish Saunas before grabbing lunch and another romantic stroll at the Cambo estate.

Janet's Foss, Malham, Yorkshire Dales

Channel your inner Heathcliff and Catherine on a romantic hike around the stunning Malham Cove before heading back via Janet's Foss to take a refreshing dip under the waterfall. From there's it's a gentle mile back along the river to Malham - which is just the epitome of romantic Yorkshire village. And far better in February away from the summer crowds.

We've not had a bad meal wherever we've eaten in Malham so enjoy a good feed and Yorkshire welcome and then cosy up for the night and watch Wuthering Heights to see how many places you can spot from your day's adventure.

Pool Bridge Monet Lake, near York

Waterlillies that would make Monet proud, weeping willows gently dipping their branches in the water and a couple of ducks waddling past. What more could you ask for from a romantic dip a deux?

The aptly-named Monet Lake is the most tranquil of the swimming lakes at Pool Bridge Farm and has steps down into the lake just a few steps from the changing room.

If the weather complies, you can find a nice quiet spot alongside the pond for a post dip picnic. Although, given it's February, you're more likely to want to book a spot in the sauna afterwards. There's a cafe on site for a warming drink and bite to eat.

Where else would you recommend? We always love new dip recommendations. And please swim safe - particularly when the water temperature dips.

And if you want to stay toasty warm on your dip adventure, may we recommend venturing to our shop page?!?
